Technical Ability-Fundamentals
These are the skills a player needs to be successful at the game. Can the player pass, shoot, dribble, defend?
Examples:
How to pivot, jump stop, stride stop, layup (over 10 versions), direct driver, crossover drive, etc
How to get your shot off quicker
Do you know the proper shooting mechanics?
Which hand to dribble with?
Which behind the back dribble to use- v or wrap around?
These are just a few examples of skills that are teachable, but coaches do not have the time to teach these at the junior high/high school level. They need to work on tactical components. These skills must be discussed, shown, practiced, corrected, and repeated until it is automatic. Roswell Basketball Academy teaches all these skills through innovative, fun, techniques.
Tactical Ability- Court Awareness, Decision Making
This is a component that must be taught. You can be the best shooter or dribbler in the world, but if you don't know how to use this skill in a game, then what good does this do? You must be able to instinctively read and react to the defense. This can be trained through drills and practices. This makes the decision making automatic. We encourage solving problems, not just providing answers. This allows for learning and retention.
Does the player know when to backdoor, overlap, curl, flare, etc? Does the player understand how to move on ball screens? Where do you move in dribble penetration? How do you do an on ball screen?
We want to nurture and foster a feel for the game to improve the decision making and court awareness. We use specific progressions (step by step) to build layers and teach.
As players learn and have fun they are motivated to improve on his/her own. Roswell Basketball Academy teaches how to read and react to the defense to make the appropriate play.
Program
Players are evaluated and then placed in one of three programs. Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3. Each program is a progression of skills and tactics.
Classes are offered twice per week for an 1.5 hours. Players can then take the information and work on his/her own.
Also, we offer separate shooting classes with the GUN 8000 by Shoot away. This machine allows hundreds of repetitions in a short period of time. Classes are limited to 4 players. Every NBA team and major college team utilizes the machine to get quality reps. To become a great shooter, you need proper mechanics, footwork, and finally thousands and thousands of reps.
